Solutions to Chinglish in C-E translation

Abstract: Translators as goodwill emissaries between countries and countries are playing an increasingly important role in promoting communications on policy, ecomony and culture among all countries of the world. But as we see, “Chinglish” is flourishing between lines in C-E translations, spoiling the beauty of the target language, sometimes even causes serious misunderstandings. So it is important for translators to work out possible and effective solutions to decrease and gradually eliminate “Chinglish” in C-E translations.

1. Introduction
Chinglish is claimed as “Special Chinese English” by John Pinkham. We say John pinkum is a polite reviewer . If the judger acts slightly serious that Chinglish is teased as sick Chinese English. It does have some not shiny speciality like too much Chinese styles, sometimes it sounds funny. And more badly, on most occasions it can not be understood by native English. This is a shame for a language worker-the translator or interpreter, which is also a disrespect for Chinese long history, extensive and profound Chinese culture. Especially when we feel our heart and ask ourselves if we had assumed the responsibility of our missions as a translator. So We are sorry.
Then how to figure out this problem? Chinglish has many symbotms we’ve already seen, if we do enough analysis and make them classified, We are sure we can find some effective solutions to decrease and gradually eliminate Chinglish in our translation works.
In this thesis, the author attempts to conduct a comprehensive analysis On
Chinglish, and present to the reader the causes of this phenomenon. The study is comparatively systematic, starting from the phenomenon and ending with solution, in the hope of making the research more in-depth and more helpful. The study is conducted from many different perspectives, both theorefical and practical. So it is expected to save as a guide to the Chinese to English translation and ultimately to benefit translation in quality.
In content, the thesis is divided into 4 chapters. In Chapter 1 the writer gives a brief introduction to this thesis. In Chapter 2 the writer gives a brief review of Chinglish like the Definition of Chinglish and its origin as well as The obvious characteristics of Chinglish. In Chapter 3 analyzes their causes. In Chapter 4 More importantly, the writer provides the best possible solutions to the problems. And in Chapter 5 In the conclusion part, the author concisely
summarizes the content of the thesis and points out the significance of the study.

2.About Chinglish
2.1 Definition of Chinglish and Roots of Chinglish.
Due to the unsystematic and unsteady nature of Chinglish, people do not always have an unanimous agreement on what Chinglish is and hereby put forward diverse and incomplete definitions from different perspectives based on their own understanding.Take the examples of the following definitions:
(Chinglish is)misshapen, hybrid language that is neither English nor Chinese
but that might be described as t English with Chinese characteristics'.(Joan Pinkham,2003)
Chinglish is an awkward mixture in which ideas conceived in Chinese file
ungrammatically or unidiomatically expressed in English.(He Mingzhu,2000)

Chinglish is speech or writing that shows the interference of the influence of Chinese. Some sentences may be little or more than word for word translation of Chinese expressions.Chinglish may be grammatically correct, but the choice of words or phrases and the manner of expression do not conform to Standard English usage.Although understanding may not be a problem,Chinglish is unacceptable.(Deng Yanehang,1989)
Chinglish is misshapen English which is produced by Chinese learners who
draw upon Chinese rules and structures mechanically as a result of mother tongue interference.(Li Guowea,1993)
Chinglish is abnormal or deformed English that is produced by Chinese English
learners or users when they are influenced by Chinese language rules.(Li Wenzhong, 1993) 转载请注明来源。原文地址:http://www.lw54.com/html/zhlw/20180309/7483487.html
